What are these assignments I keep seeing, and how does someone get one?

I can't remember who originally came up with the idea, I think parch, but perhaps Branflakes or Machinery.
At any rate, it was a good idea, and the idea behind it being, someone post an idea, they think would benefit the group. An assigment of sorts.
Then whoever wants can do the assigned work *such as writing character descriptions, 3 line poetry, whatever*, just to try and open minds and ideas...
If you have any ideas, please share. Anyone can submit an assignment...
